Preliminary Design
Working with clients of all disciplines to develop the concept and feasibility studies of identified schemes into an approved preliminary design.
We have comprehensive experience of working alongside clients and liaising with various stakeholders of contrasting disciplines. Similarly, we have a sound understanding of what is needed to progress a scheme, whether that be:
- gathering and assessing surveys or statutory undertaker information
- ensuring design compliance against current standards and guidance
- identifying materials
- understanding and advising on historical importance
- helping clients to distinguish long term benefits and maintenance liabilities
- producing initial costs
- dealing with procurement, or
- drafting basic construction phasing and methodologies.
Our strength is being able to create a strong foundation from which projects can be agreed and approved at a preliminary design stage, which enables the progression to a detailed design stage.
Detailed Design
The technical experience and capability of processing complex schemes has driven the directors to produce detailed designs at the highest level for all elements of highway and public realm design. Combining this passion and experience enables NCS to develop construction packages for submission to the Principal Contractor, ready for construction.
As a design team working towards the construction stage of any project, all the required information is sufficiently provided for final approval before issue. At this crucial stage the following elements would form the necessary package of works:
- dimensionally correct detailed drawings
- co-ordination of design elements
- specialist procurement
- health and safety
- local authority approvals / agreements
- cost profiles
- construction programme and logistics plans
- specification and working practices.
Special attention here ensures compliance, performance and quality end products that are practical and visually appealing for the end user.
Construction Supervision
Taking forward the approved detailed design scheme, ensuring that the Principal Contractor constructs the scheme according to the approved design resulting in an unparalleled finish.
Having been responsible for a variety of major projects, we can help to ensure that the high standards of the design are translated into the works on site and that budgets are continued to be met. In addition, we are positioned to be able to provide rapid advice for any unforeseen issues that may arise on site (especially if we have been involved in the detailed design stage). Furthermore, we can provide general public liaison and organise third party requirements (buses, signals, utilities, etc.) relating to works.
